Oleh Husev made the first shot on goal two minutes into the game. Dynamo right winger shot from the edge of the area into the near corner and Rui Patricio turned the ball behind.
The hosts’ advantage in the beginning was expected although Dynamo didn’t allow to lock them in their own half. Sporting created their first opportunity on 10 minutes. Abel crossed high into the area, Liedson headed the ball down and Purovic shot from 9 meters missing the right goalpost by inches.
Then teams exchanged dangerous attacks. Nesmachniy sent the ball into Sporting’s box, Husev laid it off to Bangoura but the ball was cleared by defender. In response Portuguese made the diagonal pass into Dynamo’s penalty area, Purovic missed the ball and Izmailov smashed it over the bar. In a minute Ronny broke into the box but dribbled too much and missed the chance to shoot. Thus on his next opportunity he decided not to overcomplicate the things and shot from 25 meters straight into Lutsenko’s hands. On 23 minutes Abel made a good long shot but the ball skimmed the bar and went behind.
Dynamo responded with sharp cross from the right by Husev to Rebrov but Abel got to the ball first and cleared it away. In a few minutes Bangoura backheeled the ball to the path of Ninkovic who shot towards the far corner but Polga blocked the shot.
On 34 minutes Dynamo had their first real opportunity to score when Bangoura received the ball in the penalty area, swiveled on it and shot into the far corner – Rui Patricio parried it and the ball went behind.
In the next Sporting attack Liedson ran into the box where he was fouled by Nesmachniy. The referee pointed at the spot and Polga converted the spot kick without any problems – 1:0.
Izmailov was very active in the remaining minutes of the first half. First he outplayed his opponent in the left flank and passed to Ronny who shot from 20 meters but missed the goal. Then the Russian midfielder himself shot a couple of times but Lutsenko was ready to stop his shots. Dynamo couldn’t create anything at that time and very rarely approached Rui Patricio’s goal.
The second half brought no surprises. Hosts continued to attack as if no 15-minute break happened. Dynamo managed to launch sharp counterattack on 52 minutes when Shatskikh went down the left flank and crossed into the area to Bangoura. Adrien cleared the ball but only as far as to Rebrov who missed from 14 meters.
Kravets went on the pitch to replace Bangoura and almost immediately helped Dynamo to win a corner, after which Ghioane narrowly missed the ball in good position. Then Husev headed the ball over the bar. In two minutes the ball after Oleh’s shot from the sharp angle ricocheted off the keeper and hit the post. After that Kravets dribbled past two defenders, sidestepped the third one and shot into the far corner but Rui Patricio saved it.
Despite the advantage that Dynamo had in these minutes, they conceded their second goal. Izmailov gathered three defenders around him in the penalty area and passed to Joao Moutinho who hit the far corner from 10 meters – 2:0.
On 78 minutes Purovic got his head to the ball after a cross from the left and headed it past Lutsenko but Nesmachniy managed to clear it off the line with a bicycle kick. Then Husev and Markovic failed to stop Vukcevic from shooting into the near corner but Lutsenko parried his shot.
On 80 minutes Shatskikh passed to Nesmachniy in the left flank, the defender crossed into the six-yard box where Kravets shot on the volley towards the far corner but the ball went wide. Husev also missed the goal four minutes later as he shot from 25 meters.
In response hosts scored their third goal. Markovic made a blunder in his flank, Vukcevice sent a low cross into the area where Liedson went one-on-one with Lutsenko and sent the ball past him into the net. The forward collided with the goalkeeper, Lutsenko returned into the game after that and Liedson was stretchered away from the pitch.
Hosts had to finish the game with ten men but it didn’t prevent them from winning comfortably 3:0. Dynamo lost their sixth group stage game this season with total goal difference 4-19, narrowly missing Spartak Moscow record achievement of 2002 – they had 1-18. Ukrainian champions were the worst team of this year’s Champions League.
