The game started slowly and most events took place in the midfield. The shots on goal were sparse and lacked accuracy. The first real threat happened on 11 minutes when Rat crossed from the right to the far post and Yezerskiy headed the ball down for Chyhrynskiy. Dmytro headed it on goal but Dolhanskiy saved the ball. Vorskla responded with the good shot by Stojmirovic that was turned behind by Shust.

On 22 minutes visitors could take the lead. Belik went through the left flank and crossed into the box where Ilsinho nearly put it into the net. In a few moments Hladkiy and Srna had good possibilities to score. On 31 minutes Stojmirovic could put his team ahead as he noticed that Shust went too far from the goal and tried to lob the ball over him but it went over the bar. Visitors had several more possibilities until the half time but failed to use them.

In the second half the Miners began to play more actively. They played faster and dangerous episodes near Dolhanskiy’s goal happened more often. On 48 minutes Fernandinho won the ball off the defender in the right flank, broke into the penalty area and passed the ball on the path of Belik who decided to let it go through but there were no his teammates to support the attack. In a minute Srna shot from afar and Dolhanskiy had problems catching the ball.

On 52 minutes Ilsinho crossed into Vorskla’s box for Hladkiy but the keeper saved his header. In three minutes Shakhtar finally managed to score. Rat crossed into the area from the left, Chyzhov intercepted the ball and put it behind. After Rat’s corner Chyhrynskiy headed the ball into the net.

On 76 minutes Chyzhov made a mistake in defense and Hladkiy shot from 14 meters. Dolhanskiy parried the ball but it fell back to Hladkiy and Chyzhov had to stop it from going in with his hand. The referee showed him the red card and awarded the spot kick that was successfully taken by Razvan Rat.

After the second goal the hosts pulled apart and the third goal was a logical ending of the match. Adriano went down the right flank and crossed along the goalmouth, Dolhaskiy parried Hladkiy’s shot but Fernandinho was first to the rebound and managed to put the ball in – 3:0.

The result of the cup tie is almost forejudged and the second leg in Donetsk on December 12 turns into mere formality. Vorskla are out of the Ukrainian Cup quarterfinal for the seventh time.

- I was anxious about this match when we were preparing for it. Especialy after what happened in the match against Benfica. The team's psychological state was not the best, moreover, we had to face such a strong outfit like Vorskla who can be dangerous on their home ground. But I am satisfied with my team's performance and with individual play of each player. We knew that in the second half the opponents would be taking more risk on attacks. And we, of course, did everything to open up their defence.

I think the score is corresponding to what was going on on the playing field. We had chances to score more but in this case we could have conceded to. Had we been in the same mood before the match against Benfica, the score could have been different. Today it was a team on the pitch, whereas on Tuesday there were just 11 players.

– Castillo, Brandao, Lucarelli are in Donetsk. Have you given them time to have some rest?

– I always say that only young, and preferably Ukrainian players, should be playing in Cup matches. Gladkyy, Luis Adriano, Willian are very young. I think they shall be growing. They are the future of Shakhtar. I am relying on Chygrynskyy, although he has made many fatal mistakes in recent time. I was preparing Shust for Cup matches. If he continues to play like he did today, he will have a big future. He had to miss many games due to an injury. Pyatov, in his turn relaxed at some point because he didn't feel he had to compete with Shust for a plce in the first team

– What do you think of Byelik's performance today?

–He played well today. I hear people saying that Byelik isn't playing anymore, but there is a reason. He had been injured and couldn't attend training session during 1,5 months. Once recovered he only could play for the reserve team. Today Oleksiy played well although he was on an unusual for himself position. In this match we decided to play from defence. We used two full backs and two wingers. I think this tactics brought good results.

- We tried to present some counterarguments to our opponents. Shust played well after Juricic’s shot. We conceded the goal after the set piece just like we did in Donetsk, and after the spot kick the game was as good as over. The result is logical because our opponents have more class and we lacked three first team players.
