On the first minute Chornomorets organized their attack but Pyatov had no problems catching Shyschenko’s cross from the left flank. After that hosts rarely created serious threats for Shakhtar’s goal. Meanwhile visitors continued to press on the Seamen. During one of their attacks Brandao passed for Shevchuk who crossed for Adriano who made a dangerous shot but Rudenko easily caught the ball. Later Chyhrynskiy got his head to the ball after the corner and Chornomorets’ keeper once again did his job well.

Chornomorets managed to make their first shot on goal only on 25 minutes. Maksym Biletskiy shot from a distance into the left corner where Pyatov was ready to catch the ball. Two minutes later Biletskiy broke into Shakhtar penalty area and fell to the ground but the referee didn’t award the penalty. Korytko hit the wall from a free kick from good position, the ball fell to Gimenez but his shot didn’t pose a problem for Shakhtar goalkeeper.

Shakhtar maintained the pressure throughout the first half but for a while could not break the deadlock. It lasted until Willian sent in the free kick for Marius Lewandowski who scored with a brilliant header – 0:1.

In the second half hosts looked better and had more quick dangerous attacks. Immediately after the opening whistle Chornomorets lost a good chance to equalize. Korytko hit a free kick, Pyatov made a mess of rushing out for the ball but no Chornomorets player could get to it either and it went behind past the empty goal.

Several minutes later Mello could punish Shakhtar defenders who let the long ball through to their goalkeeper but miscalculated its speed. The Uruguayan forward picked the loose ball, shot on goal but hit the sidenetting.

Shakhtar also didn’t forget to attack. Chyhrynskiy could head the ball in after a flank cross to the six-yard box but missed. Several minutes later Adriano was brought down in the area by Yatsenko and the referee immediately pointed at the spot. Brandao left Rudenko no chances – 0:2.

Hosts had to attack in numbers and this brought them some opportunities. During one of the attacks Korytko crossed into the area but Zotov shot into Pyatov’s hands. The next attack was more successful: Vazquez received the ball in the area and was ready to shot but was fouled by Shakhtar captain. Korytko converted the free kick as confidently as Brandao did before that – 1:2.

Shevchenko replaced Zotov with the second forward Fernandez. After the substitution Biletskiy and De La Haza showed good interplay and the Peruvian could went one-on-one with the keeper but the ball ricocheted for the corner.

As hosts kept attacking, they gave more space for Shakhtar counterattacks. Hladkiy could went one-on-one with the keeper but Villamarin prevented him from shooting from good position. In the injury time Chyhrynskiy found himself up front and gave a good pass for Hladkiy but Rudenko managed to save his side from a certain goal.

Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar head coach:

- It’s been a very specific Cup match, a very aggressive one. But, in general, the game was played within the rules and I am glad none of the players got injured, in both teams. We knew it would be a very difficult match. We made a thorough analysis of two previous matches against Chornomorets and we knew it would be a challenge. We encountered a very solid and well-organised team. The Odesa team have physical presence.

Nevertheless, I think we deserved this victory. We managed to score in the away match. Chornomorets were playing an open game and we managed to launch a number of counter-attacks that could have brought result. I wish we took those opportunities… We didn’t deserve a big score in this match. The score corresponds to what took place on the playing field. Chornomorets played well tonight. I am glad I could give a chance to some of the players who don’t appear in official matches too often. Today I fielded 7 players who didn’t play the previous match. They proved that they can be relied on at any time.

Vitaliy Shevchenko, Chornomorets head coach:

- I think the game was interesting for the spectators. Our opponents are a skilful team that has been being created for several years and we started creating a new team just six months ago. We need to catch up with them. Tonight the result could be different. They used their chances and we didn’t. We wanted to keep possession of the ball but we lost two players in the defense – Hryshko and Nizhegorodov. We wanted to use flanks. Something went well and something didn’t. Shakhtar and Dynamo are head and shoulders above other teams in Ukraine. Dnipro and Metalist are trying to get on par with them, I think we should strive for that too. But what was done in ten years cannot be done in six months.
