Checher 62, Kosyrin 90 Mykhalyk 24, Mandzyuk 65, Aliev 74

The pitch was wet and hosts felt it first when Bulut gave away the ball in simple situation. Aliev picked it up and shot from within the area but the ball went behind off Checher. Metalurh responded with Kosyrin’s run through the left flank that ended with the cross straight into Shovkovskiy’s hands.

Almost immediately Arakelyan made a poor backpass to his goalkeeper and Vorobyov had to head the ball away but only as far as Correa who went forward to press on the keeper. However the midfielder shot straight at Vorobyov who went out to meet hi.

Metalurh again managed to organize quick and dangerous attack as an answer for that episode. After Romanenko’s through pass Kosyrin muscled his way past Mykhalyk and almost went one-on-one with Shovkovskiy. However his shot from 9 meters lacked power and was directed towards the middle of the goal and the Dynamo goalkeeper had no problems saving it.

Dynamo had slight advantage in the next twenty minutes but couldn’t create really dangerous chances. Shots by Milevskiy and Ghioane were blocked by the defenders and Aliev rifled the free kick wide from 37 meters. Then Milevskiy shot with an overhead kick after Markovic’s cross from the right but also missed the goal. At the end of the first half Metalurh were awarded a free kick in 25 meters from the goal but Checher blasted it over the bar.

Maksym Shatskikh went in after the break and managed to score just three minutes into the second half as he headed in Correa’s cross from the right flank. However the referee decided that Shatskikh fouled Danilov before the shot and ruled away the goal.

At the end of the first hour of the match Ghioane tripped Danilov in the right flank and Fernandes whipped in the free kick towards the far corner. The ball flew over Shovkovskiy, hit the crossbar and bounced clear to go behind off Ghioane. However the Portuguese referee signaled another foul in attack seconds earlier.

Meanwhile Kostov decided to go all-in and substituted defensive midfielder Arakelyan with forward Tymchenko. Almost immediately Ihor tried to help his defense and gave the ball away in the central zone. Ghioane won the ball, cut inside from the right and rifled it into the near corner leaving no chances to Vorobyov – 0:1.

Syomin’s men could secure their victory soon after that when Kravets received the ball in the right flank and crossed into the area where Aliev leaped to reach the high ball but couldn’t get his header straight. Kravets had a chance to score on 84 minutes but dallied on the ball and Bulut was there in time to hoof it away.

Nikola Kostov, FC Metalurh Donetsk head coach:

— I congratulate Dynamo head coach with their qualification to the final. As for our performance, we played as we wanted in the first half, didn’t concede, and wanted to attack more in the second half. When our players began to believe they could win the match our player made a blunder that led to the goal. After it everything was very difficult.

Yuriy Syomin, FC Dynamo head coach:

— Both teams waited for their opponents to make a mistake. I think our players were very good, especially when defending set pieces. We did well and will now play in the final. I decided to field Vaschuk because we have the squad of twenty players and we change the starting eleven from time to time. Vaschuk was good in trainings and worked hard. He played defensive midfielder because we lost Yussuf and did well.
