On Monday, November 5 Ukraine U-21 team head coach Olexiy Mykhailychenko announced the U-21 team squad for the U-21 Euro-2009 qualifying matches against Liechtenstein and Czech Republic that will take place in Zaporizhya on November 17 and 21.
Delegates from the national team
The squad includes two goalkeepers and 18 outfield players. The coach board decided that two players of the national team, Dmytro Chyhrynskiy and Olexandr Gladkiy would help the U-21 team in these important games. In addition the head coach called up two newcomers - Olexiy Kurylov, 19, Metalist Kharkiv defender, and Denys Garmash, 17, Dynamo Kyiv midfielder.
New faces in the U-21 team
Kurylov and Garmash are new to the U-21 team but have played for the junior national squads. The squad also includes Maxym Biliy, FC Kharkiv midfielder who scored twice in the last game against Arsenal. Mykhailychenko already called up the player for previous matches but didn't use him in games against Turkey and Liechtenstein. Zaporizhya defender Vitaliy Vernydub was also called again.
Captain's injury
Mykhailychenko's team lost its captain Vitaliy Mandzyuk, Vitaliy Fedoriv, Ruslan Fomin, and Olexiy Polyanskiy to injuries. We have already used to the absence of Igor Korotetskiy and Denys Skepskiy who are unavailable for several months now because of their injuries. Disqualified Taras Stepanenko will not play against Liechtenstein. Ukraine has to catch up
Recently the team occupies the third place in Euro-2009 (U-21) qualifying group 2 with 9 points after 5 games. Czechs are on top with 10 points after 4 games, Turks are second with 9 points after 3 games. Armenia has 4 points after 5 games and Liechtenstein are yet to earn any points. According to the tournament regulations ten group winners and four best second-placed teams will qualify for playoffs.
