Pre-match layout wasn't too original. Roma came to get three points and secure their qualification for the Champions League play-offs. Dynamo had to win and hope that Sporting would lose in order to preserve any chances to continue in the UEFA Cup.
The only team to concede faster than Dynamo that evening was Lyon. Panucci scored the first goal only four minutes into the game. Vucinic could not reach his cross but his attempt disoriented Rybka and the defenders while the ball fell into the far corner - 0:1. The goal was attributed to Vucinic though.
It was a mystery how Panucci managed to miss the chance to score his second on 10 minutes. Tonetto went into the box from the left flank and sent a high ball to the far post where Cristiano was left alone between Ghioane and Rotan. The defender headed the ball towards the empty corner of the goal but it went wide.
Dynamo were more in possession of the ball and engaged in long passing from side to side. Rotan, Ninkovic and Bangoura made several long shots but they either went wide or were saved by Doni. Ismael was the closest to succeed as he approached the goal from the angle but the keeper took a good position and had no problems stopping his shot.
Dynamo's attacks lacked sharpness and pace while visitors created their goalscoring chances. Tonetto ran down the left flank and crossed into the box over the heads of three Dynamo defenders to Giuly who was left unmarked in the area, but the midfielder chose to get his head to the ball instead of stopping it and his header went behind.
On 32 minutes Vucinic sidestepped Gavrancic at the edge of the penalty area and smashed the ball towards the near corner but Rybka parried it. However just one minute later Dynamo goalkeeper had to get the ball out of his net. It all started when Dopilka won the ball off Tonetto, Ghioane picked it up and passed to Rincon who sent it further to Rotan. Ruslan ran with the ball through the middle of the pitch and lost it to Pizarro whose sliding tackle turned out to be the goal assist. Giuly received the ball in front of the goal, outplayed the keeper and pushed it into the empty net. Gavrancic wasn't there in time to clear off the line - 0:2.
The third goal came soon. This time Giuly made a pinpoint pass to Vucinic who ran away from Dopilka, went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and hit the far corner. 0:3, and the game was as good as over almost an hour before the final whistle. The remainder of the first half saw nothing interesting as Dynamo were trying to come around after such knock-down and Roma weren't eager to increase their lead further.
After the break Rotan was substituted by Belkevich. On 56 minutes the Belarussian midfielder played one-two with Husev and after the latter's shot the ball seemed to hit the hand of one of Roma defenders, but the referee ignored the episode. Roma responded with Pizarro's shot into the near corner that Rybka deflected behind.
On 59 minutes Dynamo had a chance on the counterattack but Bangoura who ran with the ball didn't pass to either Rincon or Shatskikh who were running along with him and lost the ball to Cassetti.
Dynamo possessed the ball but made too many unnecessary passes (like Shatskikh who ruined a good combination on 63 minutes). However they managed to claw one goal back. Shatskikh passed to Bangoura in front of the penalty area, Juan failed to intercept the pass and Ismael went one-on-one with Doni and shot in low - 1:3.
Oleh Luzhniy decided to go all-in and let out the third forward, Milevskiy. Perhaps the coach hoped for the flank crosses and long passes from the deep over the heads of Roma defense. However such tactics didn't bring many chances for Dynamo and Roma were able to launch their fast counterattacks through the weakened midfield.
On 75 minutes Milevskiy dribbled past Ferrari in the right flank and went on goal but instead of shooting decided to pass into the centre of the penalty area but Juan intercepted the ball. In reply Roma scored their fourth goal after a classic three-move combination. Giuly passed to the flank to Tonetto who returned the ball to Vucinic and the Montenegro forward shot on the volley into the left corner - 1:4. Rybka didn't even move to save this shot.
After that the hosts' ability to control the ball suddenly disappeared. Roma found the weak spot in the midfield and started to exploit this weakness. On 82 minutes the referee could award the penalty kick for the foul against Vucinic but pitied Dynamo, although Gavrancic clearly wanted to swap shirts with the forward too early. Even with such resistance Vucinic broke free and shot towards the far corner but missed.
The last relatively dangerous episode of the match took place at the last minute when Husev shot after the corner but hit the sidenetting. It seemed dangerous first but on video replay it became obvious that in such situation it would require a serious blunder from the keeper to let such shot in.
Stark blew the final whistle, players went to their dressing room without too much emotions as the result didn't surprise either side, fans moved home and I understood that I was not upset or shocked. I simply got used to it. What about you?
