The game started quite actively. Dynamo began to push forward immediately but failed to create any threats apart from Belkevich’s cross and Milevskiy’s dive for which the forward got reprimanded by the Belgian referee De Bleeckere.

Tavriya employed counterattacking tactics and on 4 minutes Olexandr Kovpak had a great chance to score. Misunderstanding between Vaschuk and Rybka left Kovpak the possibility to get his head to the ball from 10 meters but his header went wide. A minute later Tavriya had another quick counterattack but Holaydo’s shot lacked power and Rybka saved it confidently.

On 9 minutes Husev received the ball from Ninkovic within five meters from goal but Holaydo managed to block his shot at the last moment. After that the game became slightly calmer. Dynamo were more often in possession of the ball but didn’t have any opportunities to score until the middle of the first half. They tried to use long shots but neither Ninkovic on 18 minutes, nor Shatskikh a couple of minutes later or Milevskiy on 25 minutes were able to direct the ball towards goalmouth.

Then suddenly Tavriya scored. The goal might not have happened if not for the Belgian referee. On 26 minutes he noticed that Dopilka threw the ball in incorrectly and gave the ball to Tavriya. Holaydo threw it to the six-yard box where Idahor took all attention of Dynamo defenders while the ball fell to Joksas who headed it into the net. Rybka was the one to blame for such havoc in his area.

Dynamo immediately pushed forward with desire to equalize. Shatskikh shot from direct free kick into the area where Milevskiy fell down but the referee’s whistle was silent. On 30 minutes Husev broke through on goal past almost all Tavriya defenders but fumbled his shot and the ball rolled to Kozachenko.

On 33 minutes Dynamo scored their first goal. Belkevich took the free kick from the left flank, Gavrancic headed it into the bar and Husev was first to the rebound. However the linesman signaled offside a moment earlier and De Bleeckere ruled out the goal.

In three minutes Shatskikh lost a great opportunity to equalize when he shot from 10 meters past the goalpost. On 39 minutes Tavriya could score again after another throw-in when Holaydo threw the ball to Ljubenovic but the latter failed to shoot on goal.

Belkevich had the last chance to equalize in the first half as he curled the corner into the goal but Kozachenko read the game well and stopped the ball.

The second half of the game started with two dangerous episodes near Dynamo goal, again after throw-ins. On 48 minutes Holaydo threw the ball in from the left flank again causing havoc in the Dynamo penalty area and the defenders scrambled it into touch, this time on the right flank. Holaydo took the throw-in again and this time Rybka had to punch it away at the expense of a slight injury.

Only after that Dynamo again started to threaten Tavriya’s goal. On 55 minutes Shatskikh got his head to the ball after Belkevich’s cross but the ball flew towards a corner flag. On 63 minutes Ninkovic’ header after Rotan’s cross was blocked by defender. In a minute a free kick was awarded after Nesmachniy was tripped near the edge of the area but Gavrancic smashed it over the bar.

Three minutes later Bangoura shot from the edge of the area but the ball tipped the bar and went behind. On 70 minutes the Guinean forward shot higher from 15 meters. Belkevich missed a real chance to equalize on 77 minutes when Bangoura crossed into the box, Tavriya’s Markovic missed the interception and Belkevic got to shoot from 5 meters but aimed his shot straight at the keeper.

On 85 minutes there was turmoil in Dynamo penalty area after another one Holaydo’s throw-in but Ljubenovic again failed to shoot. In a few minutes Zborovskiy missed the ball by inches trying to head in Holaydo’s cross from the free kick.

On 90 minutes the second ball went into Tavriya’s net but the goal was ruled out again because the referee thought Shatskikh tripped Boyko in the episode. Three minutes into stoppage time Tavriya scored their second goal. Kozachenko cleared the ball that fell to Zborovskiy who shot from 20 meters straight into the corner of Dynamo’s goal.

Oleh Luzhniy, Dynamo acting head coach:

— I am mostly pleased with the match. But the mistakes of our goalkeeper were crucial. Such players have no right to play for Dynamo Kyiv. Tavriya had two shots on goal and scored twice. We didn’t use our chances but that’s not a disaster. We have lost just the first leg and will have the chance in Kyiv on Saturday.

Mykhaylo Fomenko, Tavriya head coach:

— We have won because our players were highly devoted and the refereeing was unbiased. Fans’ support also helped us a lot. We have won the first leg and now have to prepare for the second one. Homeniuk will have to undergo medical examination and then we’ll know whether he can help us in Kyiv.
