The first remarkable episode happened on 10 minutes when Correa shot from the free kick past the wall and straight into Disljenkovic’s hands. Visitors responded with a cross into Dynamo penalty area that suddenly presented a problem for Kyiv defenders. The mess in the area was stopped only by the referee’s whistle because a Metalurh player handballed. Immediately after that Bulut shot on goal twice: first he hit the wall from the free kick and then missed the goal on the rebound.

On 20 minutes Dynamo had the first real opportunity as Shatskikh elegantly lobbed the ball over Bilozor, dragged it past Disljenkovic who leaped to his feet but Checher came in time to clear it for the corner. Then Correa blasted the ball from 14 meters from sharp angle and Disljenkovic had to leap to turn it away.

By that time hosts settled in Metalurh half and almost never allowed visitors to cross the halfway line. On 25 minutes Mandzyuk shot from the same point as Correa did earlier after Husev laid the ball off for him. His shot wasn’t as powerful but Disljenkovic still had to work to parry it.

In response Tymchenko ran down the right flank and shot into the near corner but the ball took deflection off Mykhalyk and hit the sidenetting. After the corner Kosyrin headed the ball into the far corner, Shovkovskiy had no chances to stop it but Ninkovic headed it away off the line. Gvozdenovic was the first to the rebound but Diakhate blocked his shot.

After that the game went calmer. Disljenkovic saved two more shots by Correa and one by Husev without problems. On 39 minutes Checher fouled Husev in front of Metalurh penalty area and Correa struck the crossbar with his thunderbolt.

Then the goal happened. Correa whipped in another free kick, Husev jumped clear of Bilozor and headed the ball into the far corner past the keeper – 1:0.

Neither Syomin nor Yaschenko wanted to make any substitutions during the break. Dynamo started the second half lazily and Metalurh suddenly equalized. On 54 minutes Kosyrin shot from beyond the penalty area, the ball hit some bump on the pitch and flew over Shovkovksiy’s hands into the net – 1:1. Kosyrin clearly didn’t expect such gift of luck and his joy could not be hidden.

Dynamo rushed forward but visitors withheld their attacks for a while. Syomin put Aliev and Milevskiy on the pitch but for some time their efforts brought no result. On 79 minutes Ailton appeared on the pitch but made almost no contribution to his team’s efforts. On 83 minutes Shatskikh broke clear of Metalurh defense but shot straight at Disljenkovic. Then Aliev did the same and Mandzyuk headed the ball over the bar from good position. However towards the end of the game Aliev and Milevskiy showed some good interplay. Artem passed into the area, Fernandes failed to clear the ball, Oleksandr swiveled on the ball and coolly tapped it in past the keeper – 2:1.
