Leonid Chernovetskiy: Kyiv lacks only a stadium to be ready for Euro-2012 |
Kyiv city mayor Leonid Chernovetskiy said to the municipal state administration press department that Kyiv lacked only a stadium to be fully ready for Euro-2012.
Ukrainian capital risked to lose the right to host Euro-2012 matches because UEFA thinks that the trading center in front of the Olimpiyskiy stadium threatens the safety by blocking the exits from the stadium. However on February 7 vice-premier Ivan Vasyunik said that an agreement was reached between the government and the investors of the trading center construction to demolish it.
"We are ready to host Euro-2012 in Kyiv. We lack only a stadium. And it can be built in a year", Chernovetskiy said.
The project of the new stadium exists but FFU claims that it is impossible to build it in time for Euro-2012.
According to Chernovetskiy, the only problem is to find a place for a new stadium.
"Today the government and (president's) secretariat cannot determine where to build this stadium. It may be the site of Olimpiyskiy, then we will reconstruct it immediately, or somewhere else", Kyiv mayor said.
The mayor said that the problem of hotels can be solved in Kyiv. There will also be no problems with historical monuments and transport infrastructure.
