Italy is ready to "grab" Euro-2012 |
Italy can host Euro-2012 if Ukraine and Poland lose their rights for this, Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete said.
Abete thinks that the decision to grant the right to host Euro-2012 to two Eastern European countries was political but Ukraine and Poland encountered problems preparing the continental championship.
"UEFA gave Ukraine and Poland six months to speed up the preparation process. The political decision on Euro-2012 hosts was made to popularize football in Eastern Europe. We will see how these countries did their work after Euro-2008", he said.
"I hope Ukraine and Poland will overcome all problems and host Euro-2012 well. If the problems stay, we are ready to offer our help. We have plans to host Euro-2016 but I urge to start the reconstruction of our stadiums now", Abete said.
Ukraine and Poland were warned by UEFA president Michel Platini. He asked to speed up the preparation for the European championship that these two countries will host in 2012.
On February 5 it was announced that the Football Federation of Scotland is going to offer to conduct the Euro-2012 in their country if UEFA takes this right away from Ukraine and Poland. Managing director of Football Federation of Scotland Gordon Smith confirmed that.
