Germans are jeopardizing Euro-2012 final at Olimpiyskiy? |
Euro-2012 final at the NSK Olimpiyskiy is under threat. FFU vice-president Boris Voskresenskiy who is responsible for the preparation of stadiums for the European championship said: "Olimpiyskiy stadium is the venue for the final match in our application that was guaranteed by the President and the Prime-minister, so playing the final somewhere else is out of the question. Kyiv needs the second stadium but the final will not be played there".
According to the FFU vice-president, "the problem of Olimpiyskiy is not only the construction site in front of it. The project of the stadium is not approved yet. The German company Hochtief conducted preconstruction works and their project is being reviewed. The problem is that they can finish the construction in the third quarter of 2011 while UEFA requires that the first match at the stadium intended for the European championship final has to be played two years before the championship opening, that is in June 2010. We are negotiating with Hochtief. We must defend our positions if we don't want Euro-2012 to be held in Italy or Germany. All the more so other firms haven't submitted their proposals".
By the way Hochtief is the biggest developer in Germany. The company already executes works in preparation for Euro-2012 in Ukraine. In particular it is finishing the 40 million Euro project of the 31000-seated stadium in Dnipropetrovsk.
