UEFA commission visited Chornomorets stadium |
Today UEFA commission visited Chornomorets stadium. European experts examined the arena and familiarized themselves with the plan of works to be done. Then the head of the committee Philip Bovi told the press about his impressions.
- What are your impressions of Odesa?
- First impression is great as is is very warm and sunny here even in February.
- What can you say about the stadium?
- Our visit to Odesa was very brief. We had only 36 hours to see the transportation, airport, and stadium. For now we have to refrain from official statements. It's not just about stadium, it's about the whole city. It is yet unknown whether Odesa will be among the cities that will host Euro-2012.
We came here to check whether the city is able to be one of them. We checked not only the stadium, but also hotels and the airport. The latter is especially important as 70% of supporters will come by planes. My first impressions of the city are very good. But everything has to be ready by the spring of 2011. It important for the municipal authorities, the government and the private sector alike to show their cooperation in preparation for Euro-2012. If some objects can be built beforehand, a year before the championship or more, it will be a big plus for Odesa. But we are just advisers, the decision will be made by your government and the Football Federation of Ukraine.
- Have you met the city authorities?
- We talked this morning with the city representatives about the port. It is very important as only two cities of those that can host Euro-2012 have ports - Odesa and Gdansk. Ferries from Sweden will come to Gdansk and in Odesa it is possible to use hotel ships for tourist accommodation.
