We could be third but Scotland was too good

Metalist generate the least transfer rumors among the top four Ukrainian clubs. Looks like they will have to do with the players they already have. Bolelschik asked Metalist head coach about this aspect of the season break and the current situation in the club.

– Mr. Markevych, this is the last training camp before the season restart. How is it going?

– We are preparing the players for their optimal form, developing tactical schemes, determining the optimal lineup. I am already thinking about the first spring matches.

– Are you happy with the players' condition at the moment?

– Generally it is OK although some players could be prepared better.

– Please clear up the situation with Junior. Earlier you said that he wouldn't be in the team but he played in the last friendly match.

– I can assure you that Junior is not the player we need. He came to the last training camp in terrible form and it was obvious from his display on the pitch.

– Metalist are so passive in the transfer market because of having enough players or not enough money?

– I think both reasons fit. We have a balanced squad able to fulfill serious tasks. It would be good to buy another player but we cannot find the one that we need.

– Perhaps you are looking for a forward?

– You are right. Unfortunately there is no progress in our search yet. But probably we will manage to find one before the season restart.

– Who will be the team leaders in spring?

– Difficult to say. Perhaps it will be Slyusar, Valyaev, Rykun, Obradovic. We try to create an integral team and not concentrate too much on leadership problems.

– And who enjoys the most authority off the pitch?

– I can be more specific here. Obradovic, Horyainov, Rykun, who play in the club for a long time, have leader's properties.

– Can you objectively predict Metalist's place at the end of the season?

– I want it to be as high as possible. The main thing for us is to build our play and demonstrate nice football. If we play good, the result will come.

– You have good chances for the first or second place. Is the team ready for possible Champions League qualification?

– Currently the club is building its stadium, training grounds, youth academy. Our infrastructure is improving so I think we are ready for such big tournament.
