  Dynamo respond to Cleber

Cleber’s interview to Segodnya newspaper caused stir in Ukrainian football circles. Dynamo could not remain silent in this situation. According to the club management the player who decided to “tell the truth about Dynamo” lied on several points. Dynamo international service manager Anatoliy Vovk who is in charge of Brazilian players in the club, commented on several keypoints of Cleber’s interview for our newspaper.

EXCESS WEIGHT

CLEBER: "When I returned from Brazil I had two or three excess kilograms. But in Israel my weight was back to normal so I could go to Spain to the training camp” (Israeli training camp lasted from January 9 to February 1. Dynamo flew to Spain on February 8. – Ed.)

VOVK: "Cleber mentions his problems in the club but doesn’t talk about the club’s problems with him. He regularly returned from vacations with excess weight of not two but five kilograms. After Israeli training camp he still had one and a half excess kilograms. Of course the coach decided that he needed to prepare more. But being left out of the squad is especially painful for Brazilians. Perhaps this is what caused this interview”.

DEBT

CLEBER: "Dynamo do not pay me for three months”.

VOVK: "Dynamo have no debts to the players. As for Cleber, he has a clause in his contract about a bonus that should be paid in four installments. Three installments were paid in time and the fourth one is due until the end of February. The Brazilian and his agent were aware of that during the interview. Why he didn’t tell about that? Perhaps he was afraid that we wouldn’t pay him after his departure to Brazil. But he has nothing to be afraid of. Dynamo players never have problems with receiving salaries and bonuses”.

DEMARCHE

CLEBER: "During the training camp in Israel I asked my agent to tell the director Rezo that I won’t go to Spain until I am paid in full”.

VOVK: "I don’t know whether it was agreed to pay the fourth installment before the Israeli training camp or after that. Anyway when it was decided who should go to Spain we were already in the middle of negotiations about Cleber’s loan to Palmeiras. They sent their first offer on February 1 but there were talks about his possible move out before that. I think this was the reason of the coach’s decision to leave Cleber out of the squad, not some his demarche”.

END OF CONTRACT

CLEBER: "My contract was to run out in September and I had offers from Juventus and Gerta”.

VOVK: "Dynamo haven’t received offers for Cleber from Juventus or Gerta in September or after that. I think the club would accept Juve’s proposal if they were to make it. Cleber couldn’t go in either of these clubs as a free agent. He signed a five-year contract in January 2004 so it expires in 2009, not in 2007 as he said”.

MILLIONS FROM PALMEIRAS

CLEBER: "Palmeiras wanted to buy me and were ready to pay 3 or 4 times more than Dynamo had paid for me. But the president didn’t want to sell me and agreed only on loan”.

VOVK: "Palmeiras made no offers to buy the player. Their only fax to the club contained the offer to loan Cleber for six months with the option to sign him after that. The Brazilian club wanted to buy 50% of rights for the player in order to decrease the option sum. It is common in Brazil but not here so we insisted on our conditions. So we signed the loan contract with the option to buy 100% of rights for the player. The loan is not free but it is not the money that we couldn’t refuse ($350,000. – Ed.) The buyout sum is also much lower than $9-12 millions that Cleber mentioned. If Palmeiras don’t buy him until the end of July, he has to return to Kyiv by August 3”.
