Metalurh were tough opposition for all Ukrainian top five clubs this season but couldn’t get a single point in these matches. This game was no exception. Hosts had the initiative in the beginning and even made a couple of shots on goal but failed to present any problems for Horyainov. Gradually Metalurh’s ardor vanished and Metalist enjoyed more ball possession which soon brought results. Bordiyan crossed from the right flank for Devic who for some reason was left unmarked in the area. Marko chested the ball down and shot with a bicycle kick. The ball rose in the air and flew over Postranskiy into the top corner – 0:1. Ten minutes later Devic could make the double but his free kick from 18 meters went over the bar.
In this season Metalurh have been notorious for not playing themselves and not allowing their opponents to play either. However it cannot be said about this match. Metalist didn’t have many goalscoring chances but controlled the ball for a long time showing good interplay. Meanwhile hosts couldn’t make more than five precise passes in a row.
The ending of the first half as well as the most part of the second one was played at a low tempo. Metalist calmly waited for another chance and increased their lead at the first possibility. Devic was left alone in the left flank. Coelho noticed that and made a perfect pass to the forward. Devic skillfully sidestepped Nevmyvaka, went one-on-one and put the ball past Postranskiy into the back of the net – 0:2.
In the remaining time Metalurh could just once threaten the visitors’ goal when Silyuk shot from good position but his shot lacked power and Horyainov gathered it cleanly.
Myron Markevych, Metalurh head coach:
- I am happy with the result and satisfied with our performance. I’d like our forward to use their chances better. Metalurh are a young ambitious team that needs to get experience and it takes time. I don’t think we still have chances to win the championship but I told my players to go on the pitch and play and we’ll look into the table at the end of the season.
Anatoliy Chantsev, Metalurh Zaporizhya head coach:
- I thought this game would be good for us. When we increased our pace we had noticeable advantage. But in fact we were outplayed by the single player – Devic. Our defenders didn’t cope with his individual skill.
