Although the sides started the game in a slow tempo, the very first shot on goal took visitors ahead. Their attack was slightly disordered, however it didn’t stop Shelaev from crossing onto Vorobey who headed the ball home past Reva. It was the first Andriy’s goal this spring.
Dnipro didn’t have time to enjoy their success as hosts equalized immediately. Josemar launched a quick break by passing to Seleznyov. The league top scorer cut inside through the zone of Yeschenko and Rusol and shot left-footed into the far corner – 1:1.
Dnipro continued to push forward finding holes in the hosts’ defense. On 14 minutes Nazarenko found Samodin with a through pass but the forward’s run was blocked by defenders. The ball fell back to Dnipro playmaker who rifled it past the goalpost. On 16 minutes Nazarenko again could take Dnipro ahead as he found himself one-on-one with Reva after Holek’s pinpoint cross and tried to lob the ball over the keeper but sent it over the bar.
On 19 minutes Samodin shot on goal after Vorobey’s pass but Reva showed good reaction and turned it behind. Rusol got his head to the ball after the corner but it deflected off the crossbar and bounced into the ground near the goal line. On 28 minutes Seleznyov jumped above the defenders after Zakarlyuka whipped in the corner but headed it wide. Two minutes later Josemar could score but failed to connect with Seleznyov’s pass.
Lyopa went in after the break as indication that Protasov would not be content with a draw. He could break the deadlock soon after the beginning of the second half but Reva made a brilliant save to stop his free kick in the upper corner.
Visitors couldn’t organize their attacks and their surge of activity in the middle of the first half seemed an exception. They suffered from poor passing and were unable to create anything dangerous up front. The second half was also marked by much more fouls than during the first 45 minutes. Visitors received more yellow cards but hosts also weren’t lagging behind. Seleznyov could turn from hero into anti-hero as he barely escaped his second booking for offenses against Nazarenko and Andrienko. However eventually it was Yevhen who decided the outcome of the match. Towards the end of the game he was fouled by Rusol during one of his trademark runs and the referee awarded the penalty. Kernozenko guessed the corner right but couldn’t stop the ball – 2:1.
