Markevych team created their first dangerous episode three minutes into the game when Coelho made a good cross from the left to the far corner of the goalkeeping area where Bordiyan headed it wide. Karpaty responded with Kozhanov’s run and cross from the right flank for Feschuk who dallied on the ball too long and Obradovic was able to clear it. It fell to Khudobyak who shot on the volley but the Serbian defender blocked his effort too.
On 12 minutes hosts took the lead. Papa Gueye made a great run from one penalty area to another and tried to play one-two with Devic but the Serbian’s pass into his path was too strong. Laschenkov picked up the loose ball but couldn’t clear it in time as Edmar went from behind his back and tapped it into Martyschuk’s goal – 1:0.
Five minutes later Karpaty could equalize when Khudobyak sent the hanging ball from the free kick to the back post and Horyainov rushed out for the ball but couldn’t reach it. Kirilchik tried to head it in but the angle was too sharp.
On 26 minutes Rykun made a pinpoint through pass that Fedoriv was unable to intercept. Coelho went one-on-one with Martyschuk, rounded him and sent the ball into the empty net – 2:0. Metalist had a similar attack on 33 minutes but the pass for Devic was too strong and the keeper was the first to the ball.
Karpaty could respond only with Kobin’s rifled effort from outside the penalty area but the ball was directed straight at Horyainov who caught it confidently.
Hosts could increase their lead one minute before the break when Valyaev crossed from the byline into the area and Slyusar’s shot whistled past the goalpost.
On 57 minutes Gancaczyk found Rykun with the long pass and the midfielder flicked it further to Devic. Laschenkov reached to clear the ball but instead put it into his own net – 3:0. This episode couldn’t add confidence to Karpaty defenders who could score the second own goal in a few minutes when Laschenkov headed the ball back into his penalty area where Ischenko and Martyschuk couldn’t decide who should go for the ball. They collided and the ball ricocheted off Ischenko’s back but went just wide.
On 69 minutes Coelho was about to break clear of Karpaty defenders but Laschenkov tripped him and received the red card. Devic rounded the wall from the free kick and Martyschuk could only turn the ball behind.
On 81 minutes Slyusar and Zeze found themselves with only keeper to beat in the right corner of the penalty area and the Ukrainian coolly lobbed the ball over Martyschuk into the back of the net – 4:0.
Valeriy Yaremchenko, FC Karpaty head coach:
- With a scoreline like this I don’t need to tell you who made the mistakes and when. First two blunders affected all further team actions. I don’t want to defend some players but we don’t have a large squad and it had its impact. We lack stability this season because of the lack of points in the table.
Myron Markevych, FC Metalist head coach:
- The game naturally drew attention of the media as is always when Metalist plays Karpaty. I am happy with the result. Our early goal and other chances played their role. I cannot wait when we return to our Metalist stadium. I think the result of the match was logical.
