The beginning of the match saw the Seamen in possession of the ball trying to lock Tavriya in their own half. However hosts were the first to make a shot on goal two minutes into the game when Kovpak shot from short distance into Rudenko’s hands. Chornomorets responded with wide shots of Gimenez and Vazquez. Korytko managed to shoot on goal but Dikan saved his effort from the edge of the penalty area.
Then Tavriya began to use long shots. On 21 minutes Holaydo shoot from the corner of the box but Rudenko smothered the ball. Then Ljubenovic blasted the ball from 35 meters and Chornomorets goalkeeper could only parry the ball clear where Joksas failed to put it home. On 28 minutes Halyuza made a shot from the edge of the penalty area but Rudenko once again confidently saved it.
After half an hour Chornomorets once again showed some activity. Venhlynskiy picked up the ball in the centre and went to Tavriya penalty area only to shoot into Dikan’s hands. Two minutes later visitors had a lightning fast attack through the right flank but Shyschenko dallied on the ball in the box and Korytko’s shot hit Ljubenovic.
The match fate was decided immediately after that. On 40 minutes Joksas threw the ball in for Kovpak who passed it further to the penalty area for Homenyuk. Tavriya top scorer laid it off for Halyuza who blasted it home form 12 meters taking the hosts ahead – 1:0. Then Idahor picked up the long pass, shielded it from two defenders and tapped it in from three meters – 2:0.
Chornomorets tried to shorten the gap in score immediately and could be punished for that when Homenyuk tried to lob the ball over Rudenko from the left corner of the box missing the goal by inches.
Visitors were expected to try to save the match after the break but it didn’t happen. Tavriya took the initiative since the first minutes and Chornomorets could only trouble Dikan with rare long shots that weren’t dangerous at all.
Tavriya continued to attack despite the comfortable two goals cushion. On 66 minutes Kovpak had to score when he got his head to Ljubenovic’s free kick but sent the ball over the bar. Then Halyuza shot wide from a distance. On 81 minutes the final scoreline was determined when Chornomorets defenders cleared the flank cross into their penalty area for Ljubenovic who rifled it home from the edge of the area.
Only after that Chornomorets created a real opportunity to score. On 85 minutes Vazquez hit the bar after Vasin’s cross from the right flank and put the ball over the bar on the second attempt. Two minutes later Gimenez took a dangerous free kick but Dikan stopped his shot and Vazques missed the goal on the rebound.
Vitaliy Shevchenko, Chornomorets head coach:
— Our defeat was deserved. Two goals in two minutes after childish blunders of our defenders decided the fate of the match. We also had opportunities to score that we had to use. We should have lost today but not with such score. The first half was virtually even and we had chances but two goals turned everything upside down and we couldn’t do anything about it.
Our poor recent results are caused by the fact that we often lose the fight and players show no character. It is like chain reaction, when one player doesn’t fight, then another one, and so on. We are creating a new team. We need to get rid of somebody and find new players to make the team not only play with the ball but also fight. We have some young players like Vasin and Politylo and I think the future of Chornomorets lies in them.
Mykhaylo Fomenko, Tavriya head coach:
— After the defeat in Kyiv the team rejoined and you see the results. It’s no secret that this match was a matter of principle, as they say, a game for six points. I want to thank our supporters who drove our players forward. All players did what was required and some did even more.
