The game was almost even in the first half but hosts still had more dangerous chances. On 13 minutes Kravchenko shot from outside the area. Disljenkovic parried the ball but only as far as Glavina but the midfielder shot straight at the keeper from point blank position.
On 33 minutes Kravchenko outplayed the defender in the left flank and crossed to the back post but Disljenkovic was able to tip behind Dallku’s diving header.
The second half brought success to Vorskla as on 58 minutes Kravchenko, Yarmash and Chichikov organized a great three-move combination which ended with the latter’s shot into the empty goal – 1:0. In five minutes Glavina outplayed two defenders on the spot in front of Metalurh’s goal and shot towards the corner forcing a good save from Disljenkovic. And in three more minutes the referee awarded Metalurh the penalty kick but Kosyrin was unable to beat Dolhanskiy from the spot. The goalkeeper’s feat inspired another wave of Poltava’s attacks, one of which resulted in the penalty kick into Metalurh’s goal. Curri managed to perform it much better than Kosyrin – 2:0. Before and after that Vorskla had many more chances but Disljenkovic did wonders in the goal saving his side from hammering.
Nikola Kostov, FC Metalurh Donetsk head coach:
- I congratulate Vorskla with their victory. Today our players were too slow and so we couldn’t do what we planned.
Mykola Pavlov, FC Vorskla head coach:
- I am glad that the team did what was planned. Kravchenko deserves for special praise because he wasn’t training yesterday and today he had ultrasound scanning and went on the field. He had a good match and one of the national team coaches Mykhaylo Mykhaylov agreed with that. I think our advantage was overwhelming in the second half. We won despite the penalty that was awarded into our goal, but wasn’t converted. Perhaps God helped us with that.
