Before the match two original banners appeared at Chornomorets fans’ sector. The first read “No play – no support” and depicted players’ tactical formation on the pitch with tombstones instead of players’ numbers. The second contained a broken heart with one half painted in Chornomorets colours and the second one containing the ominous $ sign. The text was “Our hearts are black and blue, what about yours?” The fans themselves didn’t attend the match.
The referee had just made the starting whistle when Chornomorets took the lead. On 2 minutes Gimenez made a great pass from his own half for Vazquez who went one-on-one with the keeper but couldn’t beat him. Luckily for Chornomorets, Mello was there to strike it home on the rebound – 1:0.
Chornomorets players showed more desire to play in the opening minutes. The game in the first half as well as in the whole match was largely even with hosts having slightly more chances to score. However most their efforts were inaccurate as the Seamen lacked a good scorer.
On 10 minutes visitors launched their first good attack in which Pisotskiy went one-on-one with the keeper at the sharp angle but Rudenko rushed out in time to disorient the midfielder so he shot wide.
Korytko crossed from the free kick to the six-yard box line where Mello headed the ball on goal off the ground but the keeper parried it behind.
Pisotskiy wasted another chance when Hodin sent the corner to him but the midfielder failed to hit the ball although nobody marked him at the moment.
The game went quiet then without many chances for any side. Hodin created danger with his elaborate set pieces but Chornomorets defenders and goalkeeper coped with his efforts. Chornomorets scored another goal at the end of the first half when Vazques won the ball in the area after Korytko’s cross and put it home but the referee decided that the Uruguayan player fouled in the episode and ruled out the goal.
The second half looked the same as the first. Chornomorets attacked more in the beginning and Metalurh were more active in the end. On 50 minutes Gimenez headed the ball across goal after Korytko’s cross but Bohush fisted it away. Ten minutes later De La Haza shot on the volley from outside the area but defenders blocked his shot and turned it behind. Then Vazquez headed home Biletskiy’s corner but the referee once again didn’t allow the goal to stand because hosts committed a foul. On 63 minutes Vazquez again got his head on the ball but his position was difficult and he missed the far corner.
Meanwhile Lazarovych’s powerful drive from 30 meters went over the bar as well as Kryvtsov’s header minutes later. One of Hodin’s free kicks forced Rudenko to make a great leap to stop it.
Chornomorets kept attacking but this brought no results. Then Metalurh overtook the initiative and managed to equalize. Five minutes before the final whistle Hryshko tried to intercept a pass and put it into his own net over Rudenko who rushed out to catch the ball.
After the equalizer nothing of interest happened on the pitch until the end of the game apart from another banner put up by the home fans that contained a request addressed to Chornomorets: “Tell us when and where is football, we’ll come and watch”. The home team left the pitch to the crowd’s booing and whistles.
